Many of the tourist destinations in the world are best known for the tourist attractions they provide. Melaka is best known for being a UNESCO world heritage city and the strait of Malacca is the longest strait in the world. There are other notable tourist attractions in Melaka as well.

Eye on Melaka

Eye on Melaka is a Ferry wheel / observation wheel located in the central Melaka on the bank of Malacca River. The 60 meter tall Ferry wheel provides an excellent view of the Straits of Melaka Melaka River.

Eye on Melaka is a portable Ferris wheel inspired by the likes of London Eye and Singapore Flyer. It was first operated in Kuala Lumpur for the celebration of the year 2007 in Malaysia. Mainly a tourism activity as Malaysia is one of the tourist attraction in South East Asia.


The Ferry wheel was later deployed in Melaka to provide tourists with the captivating panoramic view of the heritage city of Melaka. It is located nearby Melaka River, which holds history heritage of hundreds of years and a center of attraction for the tourists visiting Melaka.

Eye on Meaka comprise of 18 capsules and a full round takes less than 20 minutes. The Ferry wheel is open for tourists on the weekends and weekdays. The ticket price for an adult is about RM 20 (Ringitt), RM 10 for kids the special discounted price for the senior citizens.

The backdrop of heritage buildings and the view of Melaka River alongside the Eye on Melaka catches the attention of photographers, especially at night. There is also another observation wheel nearby by the name Menara Taming Sari which takes tourists to the high altitude as compared to the Ferry wheel. The charm and beauty of Eye on Melaka still attract thousands of tourists.

Eye on Melaka ceased operation in 2010 pending legal dispute with the owner. There was another project started in Melaka to build a 85meter Ferry wheel by the name “The Malaysia Eye” on Pulau Melaka. The project was never completed and another similar project was started to build a 13th largest Ferry wheel in the world (110 meter), but still it is work in progress.


The Ferry wheels attract tourists and are equally liked by kids people of all ages. Melaka is already known for being the world heritage site. We hope to see new Ferry wheel installation in this historical city soon.

Kuala Lumpur to Malacca by Bus

Buses are departing from Kuala Lumpur to different places from two main bus terminals in Kuala Lumpur such as Terminal Bersepadu Selatan and Pudu Raya or Pudu Sentral. Kuala Lumpur is the major transportation hub in Malaysia, from where buses to various parts of Malaysia are serving the passengers. Pudu Sentral was the only bus terminal in Kuala Lumpur previously, but due to heavy traffic and increasing travelers, the transport authority decided to make Pudu Raya to serve buses towards north of Malaysia to reduce traffic congestion.

Hence, the new TBS bus terminal became the departing station for buses towards south. Bus services to Malacca from TBS start from 7am and continues till 11pm. There 2 more bus station in Kuala Lumpur such a Putra bus terminal and Hentian Pekeliling.

Bus operators

The bus operators that serve passengers to travel from Kuala Lumpur to Malacca are Konsortium Bas Express, Transnasional, Delima, Maju Express, Nice Executive Coach, Mayang Sari, Jebat Express, and Cepat Cekap Express. There are several buses plying from KL to Melaka, which allows the passengers to catch buses to Malacca every half an hour. Transnasional buses are the only option for those who travel from Kuala Lumpur International Airport to Malacca, which includes the travelers from the low cost carrier terminal. Only few daily trips are there from KL airport to Malacca. Hence, it is necessary for the passengers to schedule their travel by considering the bus schedule, if you are taking the bus to Malacca from the airport bus terminal.


From KL airport, the buses take two and half hours and from TBS at Bandar Tasik Selatan, buses take 2 hours to reach Malacca. At Malacca, the buses will end their journey at Melaka Sentral. Transnsional buses are the most frequent buses from Kuala Lumpur to Malacca.

Terminal Bersepadu Selatan (TBS)

Terminal Bersepadu Selatan is a new terminal built to serve the buses to south. The buses from this terminal offers trips to Kuala Lumpur to Malacca, KL to Johor Bahru, KL to Singapore, KL to Mersing, etc. This bus terminal is fully air-conditioned, which includes the platform. The air-conditioned bus terminal provides comfort to the passengers while waiting for their buses. This bus terminal is situated at Bandar Tasik Selatan, which is around half an hour journey from the city center. TBS is accessible from Bandar Tasik Selatan LRT Station, Express Rail Link KLIA Transit Station, and Stesen Komuter KTM Bandar Tasik Selatan.

If you would like to reach TBS, the nearest LRT station from TBS is Bandar Tasik Selatan. If you are going from the, then get down at Express Rail Link KLIA at Bandar Tasik Selatan, then go to TBS. A bridge is connected to the bus terminal from the railway station. Bandar Tasik Selatan bus station is only 20-30 minutes travel by train from KL. Some of the facilities at the TBS bus terminal are locker facility for baggage, shops, restaurants, and ATM machines.

How to get bus tickets

It is easy to purchase bus tickets from Kuala Lumpur to Malacca on the same day of departure. If you are traveling on a public holiday or religious holiday, then you may find it difficult to get the bus tickets on the same day of departure. On holidays, it is better to book bus tickets through online. After reaching TBS, you buy bus tickets to Malacca either by going to the booth windows where you can purchase the ticket or you can make use of the electronic machines to buy bus tickets. The charges for bus tickets vary from one bus operator to another. The bus fare usually ranges from RM 15 – 50 for one way ticket. The price of the ticket is usually high if you are taking a luxury coach with wide seats and WiFi facilities.


The road from Kuala Lumpur to Malacca is in a good condition and the buses will normally make one stop on the way for refreshment purpose.
