The museum is assumed to be built on the original Guan Chang site built by Cheng Ho around 600 years ago. It is also said that the warehouse built by Cheng Ho was also located in the same area.

The museum stretches over three floors which can roughly be divided into various sections such as ship gallery, old Melaka village, treasure ship, antique gallery and garden courtyard. Various old shop houses that date back to the time of Cheng Ho are restored and linked together to establish this archetype museum. It covers a huge place that depicts Cheng Ho’s life and voyages.

The museum has mock-ups of his treasure ships, a life-sized statue of a giraffe that was supposedly bought by him from china. The teas hops and treasure ship living cabins will carry you the past while offering a glimpse of Cheng Ho’s routine. All these ancient objects display his birth into a Muslim family, his career as a eunuch in the palace and counselor to the Ming emperor. The social influence of his voyages in more than 200 treasure ships with more than 28,000 men can be sensed till today. The gallery also exhibits his death during his journey to the Persian Gulf.

Visiting Cheng Ho museum is indeed one of the amusing things to do in Melaka. The museum is strategically located at Jalan Hang Jebat and is also close to the Tan Kim Seng Bridge, making it easily accessible from wherever you are staying in Melaka. It is open daily from 9:30 am to 6:00 pm and the admission charges are RM 10.00 (2.33 USD).

Located in the heart of the old Chinatown of Melaka, a small cafe enjoys its discrete presence with tourists from every part of the world pouring in. As the name “Mods Cafe” suggest, the place is inspired by the mods culture originated in England during. The Mods Cafe Melaka is a brain child of young Albert and his wife Jin-Jing and was opened in 2010. The café is located near Cheng Hoon Teng Temple and is quiet hidden amongst the shops.

The main highlight of Mods Cafe Malcca is a bright orange 1978 Volks Wagon that stands inside the café. It is said that the owner used to sell coffee in the wagon and it was mobile but due to some restrictions, owner had to stand still it and turn it into a café. Its fame shows that it was not a bad idea to convert mobile wagon into a café with a hint of Mods culture. The place is built around wood planks and brick walls. It is not quite spacious as it has only few chairs and tables and cannot accommodate more than 6 groups of people. So, you have to try your luck quite hard, especially on weekends.

The shop is decorated with lots of antique stuff making it, perhaps, the most retro cafe in Melaka. The overall look of Mods Cafe is quite antique but the coffee machines they use are the advanced technology. You may not see coffee roasters in many branded cafes, but Mods Cafe’s coffee roasting machine shares a room with drum set of Khow. Therefore, their coffee is undoubtedly, 100% pure and fresh. The shop has little scooters and other stuff as souvenirs. The walls are adorned by vintage beer cans with the Union Jack hanging proudly at the back.

The coffee make has the expertise to make more than 30 types of drinks. From hot, blended, iced, and ice cream, the café has got it all. If their double espresso is superbly thick with strong coffee aroma, then their Caffe Latte will leave your mouth all creamy and milky. The deliciousness of the Mods Cafe Melak does not end up with their drinks. They serve heavenly mouth watering Tiramisu cake with the delectable rum taste, coffee powder, and soft cakes. Enjoy an amalgamation of sweetness and bitterness with Espresso Affogato. The combination of bitter coffee and sweet ice cream may not sound good, but your taste buds will surely approve them.

The Mods Cafe is not only a place to sit and drink, but it is surely a top tourist attraction in Melaka that offers a whole new experience at a very small place.
